Randall Reid

evidence of a society

[ may 27th - june 12th, 2011 ]

Infused with a residue of the past, Randall Reid transforms salvaged steel and wood into an intimate and rectangular world.  A subtle colorist, Reid's warm, burnished surfaces are cogently tactile vestiges of memory and ancient artifact ... evidence of a society that mankind has left behind.  Deconstructing, reconstructing and resurrecting scavenged and found materials of the 19th and 20th century, the artist posses a virtuoso ability to amend their nature. Reid's work evokes the spirit of transcendent memories of past societies.  The combination of superb craftsmanship and creative energy allows the viewer to look inward and experience the effect of metal morphing into wood and wood taking on the diversity of objects left by a previous society.  Reid's most recent body of work includes paintings that were exhibited in both at the Grace Museum and the McNay Museum in Texas this past year.

Reid was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1956.  He has participated in over 300 exhibitions and is represented in the collections of Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, Austin Museum of Fine Arts, Masur Museum of Fine Arts, and the College of William and Mary.
