Randall Reid
redirecting the past
[ july 20th - august 5th, 2012 ]
Randall Reid continues to create steel framed masterpieces that
combine ancient relics and salvaged materials of the past and present
as modernist elegant objects of art. His keen sense of refinement is well
suited for his scavenging for worn-out rusted surfaces, found objects,
dried pigments and dead wood. As he revives their nature, he resurrects a
memory and inspires an encounter with the timelessness and beauty that
art evokes.
Randall Reid’s latest series of artworks represent an era of times past.
With the skill of a craftsman and a refined understanding of form, he
redirects signage and found materials from our past, shifting focus to an
era of remembrance. Once dormant, memories are transformed from
chapters previously closed into new life with new meaning.
Reid has participated in over 300 shows and is represented in the
collections of Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, Austin Museum of Fine Arts,
Masur Museum of Fine Arts, and the College of William and Mary. He
recently had a solo exhibition at the Grace Museum and the McNay
Museum in Texas.
