Finding a common ground between language and freedom has been my intent in the work I have created in recent years. Artificial language incomprehensible to the human brain I believe is found in nature. Unlike legible written language that we can understand, nature’s language is produced by building blocks of muted sounds in the process of creative thought. By arranging characters in text form, and giving them the appearance of being legible, I am recreating the synthetic sounds that I find to exist in nature. The birdcage, birds, bird nests and butterflies communicates our blinded pursuit for freedom. The clock and chains represents the persistence of time that we use communicating about the challenges of nature. When I think of the subject’s relation-ship to the form and process in my paintings, I find that it has more to do with our social struggles that it has to do with the uncompromising challenges of nature. But it is my feeling that the work would lack of integrity if I use social philosophies to justify my intent.
