With the self-assurance of a master, Guillermo Porras casts a keen contemporary eye toward the reductive geometry of the Modernists and the formal composition of academic realism. While employing the human form, Porras renders intimate and evocative narratives on canvas. The artist combines a lyrical interpretation of nature with bold use of color and shape. His paintings are dynamically composed and infused with a subtle layer of transfiguration creating an altered sense of space and time.
‘The Silence of the Alter Ego’ references the psychological region where invention fuses with memory and fantasy merges with desire. For Porras, this place is the sacred source, the creative well into which the artist dips his brush producing a vivid palette of symbolic childhood reminiscences.
Guillermo Porras was born in Limon, Cost Rica in 1958. His paintings have been represented in 40 solo and group exhibitions internationally, garnering him more than 20 prestigious awards and honors. Guillermo is a professor of art at the University of Costa Rica.
