Santiago Pérez

SANTIAGO PÉREZ

the fantastical house

Santiago Perez's new group of paintings and the installation of the Fantastical House delve deeper into the sources for the surrealistic images of fantasy and storytelling prevalent in Santiago's work. The legends, myths and fairy tales are enlivened by a precocious set of imaginative characters and their colorful surroundings. The underlying themes of the quest, transformation, and revelation, with a dose of alchemy and magic, create the Story of Sir Bears, Sir Barks, The Little Girl of the Loch, La Infanta Snookums, The Little Prince who was turned into a Pig, and many more, including the Mergatroids and the Eggmen in their latest exploits.

The installation of the Fantastical House is a painting-in -the-round, or cube, in this case, inviting the viewer to walk around and take it all in, and, also, to enter through a little door and encounter the surprise inside. The muralistic painting of the Battle of the Mergatroids and the Hubots is a tour-de-force of an amazing world of surrealistic invention. All are painted with a sure hand for draftsmanship and paint-handling, innovation and showmanship. A visual delight and a unique little world created with painting and construction.
