"Estremoz is a medium sized market town in the Alentejo region of Portugal, and a place where I have spent a lot of time. Encima means above or high, and in the case refers to the higher and much older part of the town that is up inside the castle walls. It is where I saw the side of a building that looked quite similar to what this painting looks like. It was at least my reference point." --Kevin Tolman
