Alberto Gálvez | POMONA | Nüart Gallery | Santa Fe

Nüart Gallery presents Pomona an exhibition featuring new work by Alberto Gálvez. The exhibition will run from November 3rd through November 19th, 2023 with an opening reception on Friday, November 3rd, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.

In "Pomona," Alberto Gálvez presents a new series of exquisite portraits adorned with lush floral scenery, enriching his already sensuous tapestry of contemporary classicism, nature, and the enduring allure of the human countenance. Drawing inspiration from the botanical garden as harnessed and preserved nature, Gálvez builds upon previously explored themes, offering glimpses into the enigmatic and underlying relationship between human connection and the life abundant in earth’s creations.

Inspired by the ethereal figures and allegory present in Julia Margaret Cameron’s photographs, and the lively floral motifs in William Morris’s textiles, the paintings in Pomona come together and envision the eternal moment in the brimming present. Imbued within a deep pictorial warmth and vibrant enhancement in color, Gálvez masterfully captures the enduring connection between femininity and nature's splendor, enveloping viewers in an evocative and ever-present posterity of classical art's endless beauty.

"My paintings are constructed through a weaving of allusions, references and citations from the figurative tradition." — Alberto Gálvez

Alberto Gálvez is renowned for his stunning, monumental oil paintings that seem at once timeless and contemporary. A leader among his generation of artists in Europe who have returned to the figurative tradition, his precise delineation of figures and flora skillfully conflate centuries of time and the western art historical tradition. Employing Renaissance painting techniques, classical women are transposed into a modern context as if they have been lifted out of time and into something more fundamental.

Alberto Gálvez was born and resides on the Mediterranean coast in Valencia, Spain, where he is also a tenured Professor of Painting at the renowned School of Fine Arts in Valencia, Universitat Politècnica de València. His paintings can be found in numerous international private and corporate collections. Gálvez has participated in over 35 solo and 100 group exhibitions across EEUU and Europe including an invitation to participate in The Madonna in Contemporary Art, a tribute for the 25th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's pontificate, held at the Pantheon in Rome.
