"In my work, paint echoes the geologic processes of deposition and erosion. Gravity plays as much a role as direct mark-making. I reflect on the humbling vastness of our planet, the time scales over which this world changes, and the balance between its elements: sky, stone, life." — Anne Kaferle
Anne Kaferle is a landscape painter based in Helper, UT. She was raised in Connecticut and received a BA from Colby College in Maine where she studied art and geology. After completing a graduate program in science illustration at UC Santa Cruz, Anne moved to Utah, where she has spent much of her time on local trails and rivers year-round, quietly observing. In turn, her paintings draw from a deep, geologic sense of place and time. Anne has enjoyed residencies with the Helper Studio Group and the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, and has exhibited her work throughout the western US.
