figurations III: VINCENZO CALLI | ALBERTO GALVEZ | JOHN TARAHTEEFF | CAROL MOTHNER | MICHAEL BERGT | JAMES TYLER

7 November - 7 December 2014

Nüart Gallery presents our third survey of contemporary figurative work in Figurations III, bringing together six renowned artists working in a variety of media, from places as diverse as Italy, Spain, California, New York and Santa Fe, to explore the possibilities of figurative work. Figurative art includes the human figure as well as art taken from real objects.

Vincenzo Calli will exhibit his compelling paintings that play with color, scale and perspective.  Alberto Galvez offers arresting oil paintings re-imagined from the canon of art history. John Tarahteeff’s acrylic paintings explore a dreamlike world of psychology, gender and obsession. James Tyler has created monumental sculptures of human heads from handmade bricks, that speak to something ancient within us. Carol Mothner will show her atmospheric still-life paintings where objects radiate light and Michael Bergt presents gold leaf and egg tempera paintings that blend the contemporary with stylistic elements drawn from Asian and renaissance art. Taken together these artists show us the variety of creative options available to figurative artists today.
