Erin Cone: wish fulfillment

12 - 28 August 2016

Erin Cone’s much sought-after paintings represent the ambiguity between unconscious desires and emotional longing through a fusing of figuration, minimalism and hard-edged abstraction.

In this solo exhibition, Erin Cone initially captures the viewer’s attention with the graphic elegance of the image, but then guides them to the place where subtle painting cues and nuanced body language hint at the poignant sensitivity of the figure.

As the artist states, “At its most basic level, art itself is a type of wish fulfillment – a rearrangement and retelling of reality into something more orderly and idealized, a way to satisfy a desire through pure imagination.”
