In this exhibition, Cone takes inspiration from the modiste, the dressmaker in French. Cone is intrigued by the way the abstract shape of a particular dress can reinvent the personality of the wearer. She feels that this is akin to the way a painter can turn a physical object into an abstraction. Erin Cone’s paintings are timeless reflections on a specifically feminine aesthetic.
