Nüart Gallery presents Matter in Motion an exhibition featuring new work by Guillaume Seff & William T Carson.
In Matter in Motion, Guillaume Seff’s contemporary abstractions on the inner human experience find a resonant counterpart with William T Carson’s conceptual use of geological elements and light, through which the ephemeral instance of thought and material is realized in an enduring and ethereal aesthetic melody.
Guillaume Seff’s latest paintings are indicative of the expressive possibilities in abstraction. His compositions, characterized by an organic thread of floating forms, layered lettering, symbolic imprints, and vivid contrasting color, harmoniously converge the gap between the ephemeral and enduring facets of human thought. Seff’s deftly candid handling of mixed media presents a succession of mental landscapes made up of gestural markings and tactile form that are uniquely authentic and physical. These lush surfaces are acutely contemporary and remain timelessly emotive. In Seff’s impressive pictorial language, elements are matched in a mental intimacy and resolute evocation, conveying a cohesion of inner monologue and its compelling visual essence.
William Carson’s new work creates a stimulating contemplation of the interplay between light and material by exposing the transformative qualities of matter such as coal, mica, and gypsum. In carefully integrating these crude elements into remarkably refined and composed forms, Carson explores the sophisticated dynamics of reflection and absorption wrought by the fusion of mica and coal. Complemented by a new, innovative use of black acrylic panels, which metamorphosize with shifting angles of light, the compositions create an evolving and mesmerizing exercise in perception. In Matter in Motion, Carson continues to reimagine these compelling, geologic materials and their cultural associations into a new aesthetic and conceptual makeup.
