Traces 30 Jun - 16 Jul 2023 "Traces" presents a magnetic interplay between emotional vulnerability and artistic fortitude as Shar Coulson continues to cultivate her gestural interpretation of the natural world. Inhabiting the space between wind and water & flora and fauna, primal traces branch and hold undulating forms recognizable as both familiar shapes and layers of tactile color relinquished to abstraction. The real and ideal merge in these verdant compositions, where channels of dense tones from the outside world coarse over and around intersecting elements, webbed drips, and diffused pigmentation. An environment simultaneously entwines and separates in the work, where transparency of the organic world superimposes the mystery of our inner sensitivities. Read more -
Kevin Tolman
Here + Now 9 - 25 Jun 2023 In “Here & Now” Kevin Tolman presents his newest mixed media paintings, a collection of bold, energetic abstractions where immersed precision meets a governing improvisation in explorative, nature versed compositions. Bounded between refreshing, serene palettes and more striking figuration and robust hues, an expanse of color and approach solidifies into a visual environment unmistakably his own. Through an intentionally welcoming mindfulness of the present moment, these resonant color fields give way to studied organic forms curiously familiar, where time is unhurried and instead patiently deliberate. By way of thorough observation and intuition while painting, Tolman refines his compositional focus by relinquishing control and letting each element cohesively settle in and transform into an ever unfolding vision. Surfacing 19 May - 4 Jun 2023 In a continuation of Michael Bergt’s exploration of allegorical realism and contemporary interpretations of classical myth, "Surfacing," delves into the mystical and metaphorical meanings of gold in artwork, and the symbolic exploration of submersion and emersion. Bergt uses gold in his artwork to represent the internal world, a luminous, aqueous reflection of the unconscious in which the mystical and spiritual aspects of human perception circulate. Absorbed in these subjective realities, Bergt’s figures find themselves bound by the question of whether to surrender to submersion or to emerge on the surface with the full range of experience.
